For too long, quality African capital market data has been the exclusive domain of large institutions with Bloomberg subscriptions and Reuters terminals. A retail investor in Lagos, a fintech builder in Nairobi, or a diaspora investor in London wanting to buy Nigerian equities โ they all hit the same wall: no data, or data so expensive it's inaccessible.
Mansa Markets changes that. We built the infrastructure to aggregate, normalise, and serve African market data โ every exchange, every stock, every index โ through a clean terminal and a developer API that any engineer can integrate in an afternoon. No enterprise contract. No six-figure licence fee. Just data.
Years in the Making.
The Problem Identified
Working across African markets, the Pulsar Labs team kept running into the same wall: high-quality, machine-readable African capital market data simply didn't exist at any reasonable price point. Bloomberg and Refinitiv covered Africa as an afterthought. Local data vendors had no APIs. The gap was obvious.
Research & Architecture
Two years of deep research across 12 African stock exchanges. Building relationships with data providers. Designing the data pipeline architecture to handle the unique challenges of African market data โ irregular trading hours, dual-currency listings, thin liquidity, and exchange-specific quirks.
Data Infrastructure Built
The Pulsar Labs data team spent the year building the ingestion pipeline, normalisation layer, and quality assurance systems. Every exchange has different data formats, update frequencies, and reliability characteristics. Building a unified layer on top required building bespoke connectors for each market.
Beta Testing
Closed beta with 40+ investors, analysts, and fintech builders across Lagos, Nairobi, Accra, and Johannesburg. Feedback shaped the terminal design, API schema, and data coverage priorities. NGX, GSE, and NSE went into production.
Expanding Coverage
JSE, BRVM, and LuSE added to the live roster. The commodities and forex layers were added. The developer API opened for early access. A growing community of builders started using Mansa Markets data to power fintech products across the continent.
Public Launch
Mansa Markets launches publicly. 6 exchanges live. 771+ stocks tracked. Real-time African market intelligence accessible to anyone โ from retail investors in Lagos to institutional desks in London tracking African EM exposure.
