About the Mauritian sovereign debt market

The Bank of Mauritius (BoM) conducts Government of Mauritius Treasury Bill (GMTB) auctions weekly on behalf of the Ministry of Finance. T-bills are issued at a discount and target three tenors, 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day, with each weekly tender typically covering two of the three.

Mauritius is notable for its investor-friendly tax regime: zero withholding tax on GMTB interest, fully convertible Mauritian Rupee, and extensive double-taxation treaties. The country also has a deep wholesale market for longer-dated Government of Mauritius Bonds (2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 20-year) and inflation-indexed bonds.

Frequently asked questions

What is the current Mauritius 91-day Treasury Bill yield?

The latest BoM weighted-average yield for 91-day, 182-day, and 364-day GMTBs is shown live at the top of this page. Mauritian T-bill rates have run in the 3.5 to 5% range through 2025-26, reflecting the Bank of Mauritius monetary policy stance.

How often does the Bank of Mauritius auction Treasury Bills?

Weekly. The Bank of Mauritius publishes auction results for Government of Mauritius Treasury Bills (GMTBs) every week, typically covering two of the 91/182/364-day tenors. Each tender targets a specific amount (e.g. Rs 1,000 million) and the BoM publishes the weighted-average yield, total bids received, and amount allocated.

Are Mauritius T-bills tax-friendly for foreign investors?

Yes, Mauritius has one of the most welcoming sovereign-debt regimes for foreign investors. Zero withholding tax on interest from GMTBs, full Mauritian Rupee convertibility, and double-taxation treaties with 40+ countries make MUR fixed-income unusually accessible to diaspora and offshore capital.

How do I buy Mauritius Treasury Bills?

Through any Primary Dealer commercial bank, MCB, SBM, AfrAsia, ABC Banking, or specialised treasury brokers. Retail and institutional investors can submit competitive or non-competitive bids at each weekly tender. Minimum bid is typically Rs 100,000 nominal.

Does Mauritius issue longer-dated bonds?

Yes. The Government of Mauritius also issues 2, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, and 20-year fixed-rate bonds, plus inflation-indexed bonds and savings bonds. These trade in the secondary market through Bank of Mauritius approved dealers. Mansa coverage of GMC bonds is planned in a future release.
