NSE Kenya Q3 2026 Review: 40 of 57 stocks rose, and the exchange itself gained 56%
How the Nairobi Securities Exchange performed in Q3 2026: the NSE All-Share Index rose 9.6%, 40 of 57 stocks gained, and Africa Mega Agricorp, Car & General and NSE Plc led. Top gainers, biggest fallers and month-by-month NASI levels.

A broad rally on the Nairobi Securities Exchange
The NSE All-Share Index (NASI) rose 6.1% in July and 5.7% in August, reached its quarter high of 255.34 on 3 September, then gave back 2.3% in September to close at 245.60. That is a 9.6% gain for the quarter. The shilling barely moved against the dollar, so dollar investors kept almost all of it: 9.4%, and 31.1% for the year to date.
The gains were broad. 40 of the 57 stocks with a full quarter of trading closed higher, 16 fell and one was unchanged. Banks did much of the lifting among the large companies: Equity Group rose 31% and KCB Group 19%, while Safaricom, the most traded stock by a wide margin, added 8.4%.
Car & General, Africa Mega Agricorp and the exchange itself
Africa Mega Agricorp was the quarter's best performer, tripling from KSh 111.75 to KSh 350 in a steady climb with no single-session jump.
Car & General rose 157%. Its biggest day came on 13 August, when the company raised its interim dividend to KSh 1 a share from KSh 0.30 on a fourfold rise in profit, and the NSE allowed the stock to trade past its usual 10% daily limit. It closed as high as KSh 375.75 on 20 August before settling at KSh 290 at the end of September.
Shares in the Nairobi Securities Exchange itself rose 56%, from KSh 19.50 to KSh 30.40, as the market operator's own stock rose with the market. Britam Holdings (+48%) and Unga Group (+46%) rounded out the leaders.
The fallers were mostly small companies: Umeme lost 19%, and Uchumi Supermarket and Home Afrika each fell 17%.
